As the Marketing Coordinator here at Charity Dynamics, I don’t always get to meet our clients which is why I love events like this so much! One week ago today, I attended the Fundraising Roundtable workshop in Chicago. It was an awesome workshop where we got to visit with many of the nonprofit industry’s rockstars.

So, what did we talk about? Well, the agenda included an icebreaker so attendees could get to know one another, we had 3 sessions that will aid any nonprofit’s peer-to-peer strategy: Say What?! Messaging in a Multi-Channel WorldRegistration Dos and Don’ts and Data to Drive Your Strategy. Then, to finish the day, Lance of Blackbaud moderated an expert panel comprised of experts from American Lung Association and Make-a-Wish America. They share some amazing insights about their real-world struggles and successes and sparked great conversation from the entire audience.

But what did we really talk about? Which topics were hot? To me, it seemed like event diversification was one of the many main themes of the day. It came up a few times during each session and even during the expert panel.

Key Takeaways:

  • Making sure each question during the reg process has a purpose will increase chances of getting a supporter to go through the entire registration flow.
  • Digital fundraising is on the rise in peer-to-peer and other areas of fundraising, so being mobile optimized is not even an option anymore.
  • Returning fundraisers raise significantly more money. This is not surprising, but it’s a good opportunity to aid their fundraising strategically by ensuring they have the tools they need to fundraise more year-over-year.
  • Keep events fresh and interactive to battle participant fatigue.

The event was so much fun and I am truly grateful that I was able to connect with so many passionate, fundraising pros. I’d like to thank all attendees, our panel members and our partners at Blackbaud for making this event so fantastic!

This event qualified for 5 continued education points toward CFRE, so don’t forget to log those hours if you made it out for the event!
